This project is based around the idea of Leisure and Feminism; which happens to be a very debated topic even among the feminists. It aimed to introduce and nurture the idea of leisure amongst the stay-at-home mothers in my community, of mostly business-class families. For them, motherhood has been glorified and normalized as a system that requires mothers to be 'self-sacrificing' caregivers. I spent a few weeks with these women and by way of conversation, realized that most of their ideas of leisure connected them to their Maternal Homes. So we started creating memory maps of their maternal homes and later collaborated to translate these maps into artwork based on their favorite hobby/idea of leisure.
The research approach adopted in this project was conversational. One wouldn't categorize the process as rigid interviews. They were organic conversations with an open ended outcome, built around the idea of Leisure and the complexity of the concept within Feminism.
