In many cultures, women are often compared to goddesses. In this formation of parallels, an image that has now been embedded in the popular culture is the image of a woman with many arms holding many things. This image is often seen as a thing to be proud of and something which feels as a necessity for many women to feel worthy. A phantasmagoric image is created setting expectations very high. This installation is an attempt to break that image and also bring it into conversation.
Research Approach
In the process of researching about the struggles of real women in my life, I found a common string that ran through most of them. This string was the lack of choices. Their lives had a set path that they had to follow with predefined roles and responsibilities. I used the structure of a cuckoo clock to highlight the repetition while at the same time juxtaposing it with the subjective aspect of it.
